Pressure Cooker Ketchup Recipe

The BEST Instant Pot Ketchup Recipe (1)

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Young’s Seafood. The opinions and text are all mine.

I am actually really, really excited to share this recipe with you – I don’t even know why.Maybe it’s because we love ketchup in our house, but I like being able to use homemade when I can?! This is seriously the easiest way to make homemade ketchup! So first off…let’s talk about my relationship with fish. It’s one of those things my mom would make maybe once a month, and I always dreaded it. Probably because it was supposed to be good for me (and who wants something like that as a grumpy teenager). The BEST Instant Pot Ketchup Recipe (2)However, I always ended up eating it, and liking it…until the next time she would make it.I would never willingly choose fish…but then I realized not all fish tastes, for lack of a better term, fishy.Whenever we go to my in laws house, they serve some kind of fish…and I always really like it. It’s always lightly breaded, seasoned well, and it tastes delicious. So I recently started buying breaded fish and fish sticks, and I really enjoy them. When I was asked to try out Young’s Seafood, I couldn’t wait!My local Walmart carried a few items from their line, so I grabbed the Traditional British Crispy Battered Cod Fillet & Chips and the Flipper Dippers for dinner the other night. I decided to try and make my own ketchup in my Instant Pot to go with it!It was so easy to make, and we all loved being able to dip our yummy fish and fries in them. The BEST Instant Pot Ketchup Recipe (3)I absolutely LOVED how crispy the battered cod was on the outside and nice and moist on the inside. I felt like they were just as fresh as getting them at a restaurant! I made it with my Air Fryer, and it was cooked to perfection (watch for a tutorial for that soon!)The BEST Instant Pot Ketchup Recipe (4)I really liked the flipper dippers. They are brilliant! It’s a great way to get your child to eat fish – especially if they are more hesitant about it. They are made of fish and potatoes, so it’s kind of like a fish french fry…and the fishy taste is very mild. The BEST Instant Pot Ketchup Recipe (5)Young’s Seafood is now available Walmart and Sam’s Club stores. I highly recommend them. They are the number one seafood brand in the U.K., and if there is one place that knows something about Fish and Chips…it’s definitely the U.K.My boys really enjoyed eating the Flipper Dippers. They thought they were so fun to dip in the ketchup! The BEST Instant Pot Ketchup Recipe (6)So now for the pressure cooker ketchup recipe! This is a very delicious recipe, and it doesn’t take hardly anytime at all. I much prefer the taste over store bought ketchup. The BEST Instant Pot Ketchup Recipe (7)Some people make ketchup with fresh tomatoes or tomato paste, but I think this is the perfect recipe. I used crushed tomatoes, and it worked really well. The BEST Instant Pot Ketchup Recipe (8)

Ingredients

  • 2 28 ounces cans of crushed tomaatoes
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 Tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teasppon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to your Instant Pot/pressure cooker pot. Stir to combine seasonings.
  2. Put lid on, put the valve to seal, and set the pressure to manual high for eight minutes.
  3. When the timer reaches zero, quick pressure release all the pressure.
  4. Stir the sauce, and then using an immersion blender, blend until smooth. If you don't have an immersion blender, you can put the sauce into a regular blender (be careful, because it will be very hot!)
  5. Once it's blended, put the Instant Pot onto low saute and let it reduce for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

I strained mine through a nut mylk bag (like a cheesecloth) to make thicker. 16 oz of ketchup is what resulted so I froze half in silicone cubes for defrosting later since I don’t know the refrigerated life of the ketchup and I can’t eat 16 oz of ketchup in a week. 🙂

I wish you would have said it was for an 6 or 8 quart. Used my 8 quart and burned it in a few minutes. What a waste of time.

I’ve made this a few times, it’s incredibly easy and very very good. Will try a few of the suggested seasoning adjustments. I’ve always put it in mason jars sealed in water bath – wondering how everyone else stores theirs? Thanks for the great recipe 🙂

Just made a batch to go with some left over chicken strips and my husband loved it!! We both loved the little kick the cayenne added straight from the pot, but it wasn’t spicy on the chicken at all! This will definitely become a staple in our house. Thank you for sharing your recipe!!

IT’S HOPE MARTIN AGAIN. MY FRIEND AND I CANNED ABOUT 21 JARS OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF KETCHUP. SOME NO SALT SOME NO SUGAR. BUT WE HAD NO CAYENNE PEPPER SO WE USED WHITE PEPPER, CINNAMON, CUMIN, AND A PINCH OF CLOVES. THAT CAME OUT ZIPPY AND SPICY. WE DIDN’T HAVE WHIT VINAGER EITHER. SO WE USED NO SALT ADDED SAUCE AND IT REALLY CAME OUT AWESOME. MY FRIEND IS BORROWING MY INSTANT POT SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. THANKS FOR THE RECIPE. KETCHUP WITH SOME ZIPP TO IT.

I’m going to give this a try. I am on a very low sodium diet and I have found that ketchup can be used for everything. I no longer can find no salt added ketchup anymore that does not have “alsosalt”. This ingredient can harm kidneys and I already have an issue so I decided to make my own. I’ve made a small batch and it was good so hopefully i will be able to can this too. thanks for the cooking tips. hopefully I don’t blow it up. Really not great in the kitchen but am doing better. I think.

Perfect taste! I didn’t have white vinegar, so I used my rice vinegar and left out the extra sugar. Liquid was too thin for hotdogs despite sautéing it for over an hour. Next time I’ll strain the canned tomatoes and not add the extra water so it can be a thicker consistency.

First time making ketchup. Thanks for the recipe! Definitely healthier and a crowd pleaser 🙂

I would imagine so – I’ve frozen pasta sauce with success before, and this is similar. Someone else mentioned freezing in an ice cube tray – that seemed smart to me! I think homemade is always best when possible 🙂

    Reply

    • Katie says

In general, opened bottles of ketchup can last in the fridge for 1-6 months. It has such a high acidity content, it should last awhile. I would just make sure it’s stored in an air tight container and make sure it doesn’t smell or look rancid 🙂
