UK Frats Still Low Scholastically Four Kentucky colleges and universities were among the top 33 schools nationally and the commonwealth ranked second among the 48 states in fraternity scholarship ratings for 1947-48 CoL Ralph Wilson scholaifhip counselor for the National Interfraternity Conference said last night The four schools and their rank above the average college grade were Georgetown College 778 per cent: Centre College 599 per cent' Transylvania College 263 per cent and the University of Louisville 12 per cent The University of Kentucky fraternity average was 543 per cent below the norm CoL Wilson said The percentages and positions were compiled from fraternity scholarship records submitted by 144 schools and by 1842 chapters of 59 national fraternities The starting point for comparison is the average" or the man grade determined from both fraternity and non-frat records Top-ranking was William Jewell College Mo which was 1643 per cent above average second was Susquehanna University P- with 1183 per cent and third was Drury College Mo with 911 per cent Georgetown ranked seventh: Centre 11th: Transylvania 25th Louisville 35th and the University 125th Only 47 of the 144 schools were above the all average CoL Wilson stated is a sad indictment against the fraternity system of America when only 47 out of 144 institutions can deliver respectable fraternity scholarship If respectable fraternity scholarship can be made in one institution there is no earthly reason why it cannot be made in alL" he asserted men have not kept the pace scholastically and early returns for the college year 1948-49 indicate that fraternity scholarship is not improving It might be well for college and fraternity officials to view the tabulation with considerable alarm for they must share the responsibility for the deplorable condition" CoL Wilson stated these officials are willing to act drastically the problem can be solved almost instantly: if not the future does not look encouraging" he emphasized Four Are Approved By Police Lodge Four applications for associate membership were approved last night at a regular meeting of the Blue Grass Lodge No 4 Fraternal
