[Top 10] Kenshi Best Foods (And How To Get Them) (2024)

If you’re not a skeleton, then you’ll have to worry about food in Kenshi. Food is very scarce in Kenshi and one of the hardest things to get as a newer player. I’ll do a quick list of food items that should help you keep satiated, judge each food by its rarity and possible locations. Without further blabbing, let’s start with:

10. Foul Raw Meat

That’s Bugman food!

This is usually eaten by the Hivers, it can be found on Skimmers and some other animals. Even though it has very little nutrition, it comes in great quantities and should last for a long time. Keep in mind, this meat can be only consumed by the Hiver tribes!

Why this food is awesome:

• Usually found in great quantities after hunting animals
• 10 nutrition per slab of meat? Not bad!
• Found on most animals

9. Grand Fish

A rather grand fish.

It’s a fish, what else can I say. It’s a shame that you can’t start fishing in Kenshi, it would make hunger problems go away for your squadmates. So where can you find these fish? You can find them on shop vendors that are located in the swamps and sometimes on the Fish Isle, be careful though, there are Fishmen and they’re not exactly friendly!

Why this food is awesome:

• Cheap for its nutrition
• Takes little space
• Omega-3 fatty acids!

8. Rice Bowl

Where are my chopsticks?

A rice bowl can be bought or created. Most barkeepers usually have this food available but if you have an outpost and you wanna craft yourself some good ol’ rice, then you’ll need a cooking stove, some riceweed, and water. After you’re done boiling it, you’ll enjoy a lovely, bland dish that should restore 25 nutrition!

Why this food is awesome:

• Easy to craft
• 25 nutrition
• Common in food shops

7. Cooked Vegetables

Boring, but nutritious.

It’s a lot like the good ol’ rice bowl, it has the same amount of nutrition but it’s easier to craft and also easier to find in food shops. It requires 8 greenfruits and 1 barrel of water plus a cooking stove. It can be mass-produced and it’s perfect for feeding your large squads with this boring food!

Why this food is awesome:

• Easy for mass-production
• 25 nutrition
• Can be combined with rice to make Gohan

6. Meatwrap

Finally, some good food!

It’s basically meat wrapped up with bread. It restores a decent amount of nutrition and it’s relatively easy to craft - it requires raw meat from any type of animal and bread, that you can either purchase from a barkeeper or craft it yourself. It should restore around 50 nutrition and keep a smile on your face because you finally ate something semi-decent!

Why this food is awesome:

• Keeps you satiated for a couple of days
• Easy to craft
• Dang, it even looks appetizing!

5. Gohan

Rice with veggies!

In order to make Gohan, you need x8 greenfruits and x10 riceweed. It’s relatively easy to make and it’s probably one of the best foods for mass production. If you want to make plenty of Gohan, I suggest you start an outpost in The Swamp. Rice grows there pretty fast!

• 75 nutrition
• Easy to craft
• Keeps your squaddies happy!

4. Dustwich

Disgusting but nutritious.

First of all, who the hell would eat a sandwich with a goddamn cactus? It sounds disgusting and dangerous at the same time but one thing that I like about this sandwich is that it gives a decent amount of nutrition and it’s pretty easy to craft. Requires 1 loaf of bread and 8 cactuses, that grow extremely fast in arid zones.

Why this food is awesome:

• 70 nutrition
• Crunchy
• Perfect for outposts in arid zones

3. Foodcube

Bread+vegetables=dissapointing.

What are those? Disappointing cubes of boring food. At least be happy that you won’t starve to death, food is a luxury in the world of Kenshi. If you’re planning to buy these cubes, you’re gonna find them 100% of the time in food shops/bars. They’re also easy to make in arid/green zones, all you need is a loaf of bread and x8 vegetables. Easy peasy!

• 75 nutrition, dawg
• Ez to make
• Vegan food

2. Ancient Nutri-Rations

How is this still edible?

I have no clue but you can find this ancient food in locations such as libraries, workshops, and ancient laboratories. You can’t craft this stuff unless your Kenshi is modded and you also can’t buy it, but it usually appears in large quantities inside of chests, safes, and storage boxes. This food is pretty nutritious AND expensive - eat it or sell it!

Why this food is awesome:

• 125 nutrition
• Always appears in laboratories
• Lasts for a million years

1. Ration Pack

Small and nutritious. Perfect!

It’s pretty much the same as the Ancient Nutri-Rations, the only difference is that you can find this thing in shops. They are expensive as hell though, you could try stealing it from an unsuspecting barkeeper or just clench your teeth and spend a few thousand cats on food that’s gonna last for at least a couple of days.

Why this food is awesome:

• 125 nutrition
• Always possible to buy in shops
• Each ration should last for 2-3 days, depending on the hunger multiplier
